THE NUT’S PAY CAMPAIGN UPDATE

The STRB’s report on teachers’ pay is due in November 2007.

The TUC has agreed to oppose the 2% limit and “co-ordinate a joint

campaign of opposition…including co-ordinated joint industrial action”.

The NUT plans to ballot members later this term. You should vote

YES when the ballot takes place.

In the meantime, visit www.teachers.org.uk – tell your

story about how your living standards are being harmed and

use the facility to email your MP.

The NUT achieved success in its recent campaign on pensions. All

members of the Teachers' Pension Scheme had their pensions

protected and new teachers retain access to a quality pension

scheme. This was achieved by united campaigning across the public sector.

Teachers Building Society (TBS)

Teachers Building Society (TBS) was founded over 40 years ago, and is committed to remaining a mutual organisation and is the only building society recommended by the NUT. TBS have an NUT member on the board so always have the interests of teachers at the heart of what they do. For example, they offer a 100% mortgage and a guarantor plan for newly qualified teachers who need help to buy their first home. TBS also provides teachers with a range of savings accounts that deliver attractive investment returns including an easy access Call Save account, a Mini Cash ISA and Fixed Rate Bonds.

For further information, call TBS on 0800 378669 or visit www.teachersbs.co.uk

Warrington NUT wishes a prosperous, peaceful and happy new year to all our members.

This term promises to be an eventful one for the union. You will be asked to vote on key issues. At the time of writing The School Teachers’ Review Body Report on pay is due. When published the NUT will ask for your response. If the pay offer is less than you think you deserve then you will be urged to VOTE YES for action to protect your pay.

Members will also be urged to VOTE YES in the ballot for a political fund. An NUT political fund will not alter the union’s traditional political independence. It is not about affiliating to or supporting any political party, it is about enabling the Union to campaign against racist and fascist parties during elections.

Finally members will be asked to vote in the National Executive elections. Warrington NUT will urge you to vote to elect your local Division Secretary- Elizabeth Purnell, and to re-elect Eddie Ritson. You will have a chance to hear from both candidates at the Annual General Meeting, see below.
